♥ St Augustine Part 2September 26, 2008
So I guess I've done the introduction of St Augustine, let me continue with my 2nd part of it.
Let to start with the favourite place of interest- Castillo de San Marcos, aka Fort Marion. As I mentioned that St Augustine was being occupied by Spanish and British, this fort was being used by both and evidently left their stories to past on to the next generation.
It was built in a masonry star with conquina (little shells), so when you look closely at the walls you get to see the lavender shining shells. This beautify the fort as though they were meant to keep the soldiers' mood up. Other than that, the Spanish had already decorated the fort in their bunks, there were coloured lines and patterns on the walls. It was more like home than I had actually imagined a real fort would be...
The first impression I had of fort was actually like the one in LOTR black and dull. But seeing this national monument, the fort seemed more realistic and more warm than it was looking on the screen.
On the "deck" there were rusted canons were made and shipped from all parts of Spain, having beautiful decorative patterns that were so Spainish. Many were made out of copper so after the years, they have become green just like Statue of Liberty, the green lady. I've seen many of them were made from Sevilla, one from Villareal and I actually found one from Barcelona!
Probably another note to take was that the look-out point on the fort was made so small I wonder how could a man which should be bigger in size than me could fit? I didn't mean that I'm a petite lady but, these are soldiers we are talking about... Or was it that over the years, we humans have grown in size both ways?
I haven't taken much pictures of the fort as I didn't know what type of face is suitable the place. I mean a fort is definitely a sad place with wars, deaths and mans who missed their family. How could I stand on the bricks and smile even though I was actually glad to be there...
So the pictures below are actually from other websites and my friend's camera.

There shall be another part to St Augustine to introduce for other places in St Augustine.
